Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the MileMouse website and MileMouse software provided and distributed by Magellan Software LLC.

2. Plain-English summary

The MileMouse desktop app keeps aggregate input activity totals on your device. It does not create a MileMouse account, upload app activity totals to Magellan Software LLC, provide a remote activity dashboard, or include an app telemetry endpoint.

Microsoft Store services are separate from MileMouse app activity handling. Microsoft may process delivery, billing, and licensing information under Microsoft terms.

The MileMouse website can use optional Google Analytics only after consent. Website analytics does not include desktop app totals or key-content data.

3. App data processed

MileMouse processes the following data locally on your Windows device:

• Daily activity aggregates: mouse distance, number of key presses, number of clicks, and optional active time.
• Preferences in config.json including DPI, units, week start, idle settings, break settings, chart settings, and onboarding state.
• Local data in data.json for daily aggregate activity totals.
• Microsoft Store entitlement or license status checks for Pro feature handling. Activity totals are not included in Store entitlement or license checks.
• If a local trial has been started, trial.json stores only schema version, trial start timestamp, and last-seen timestamp to enforce the 30-day window.

When a key event is received by the local hook, it is handled transiently only to increment a numeric counter. The key identity is never written to disk, never logged, never transmitted, and is discarded immediately after counting.

MileMouse does not process or store:

• Typed content, key sequence, password content, or clipboard content.
• Screenshots, app names, process names, window titles, or browser history from desktop app activity.

4. Purposes and responsibility

Data is processed locally at your direction to provide app features, including counting, settings, calibration, break reminders, and local reports.

Magellan Software LLC provides MileMouse and is the contact for information it controls, but it does not receive local activity or configuration totals from the app.

5. Where data goes

MileMouse writes local app data under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Milemouse and does not send activity totals to a MileMouse cloud service.

• No MileMouse account is required.
• No activity profile is received by Magellan Software LLC.
• No activity totals are sold or shared for advertising.
• User-created exports and backups are written only to user-selected locations.
• There is no MileMouse cloud sync endpoint.
• Local trial timestamps stay on-device and are not transmitted to Magellan Software LLC.

6. Microsoft Store and third parties

Microsoft Store services may independently process app delivery, purchase, billing, account, tax, refund, and entitlement or license data under Microsoft policies.

MileMouse does not send app activity totals through Microsoft Store purchase or licensing flows.

MileMouse uses operating system interfaces and a local global hook library to count input activity on-device. Third-party open-source component notices are provided in the app. This policy does not state that those libraries receive MileMouse activity data.

7. Website

This section applies to the MileMouse website at https://milemouse.com/. It does not change how the MileMouse desktop app handles activity data locally.

With consent, the website uses Google Analytics provided by Google LLC (United States) to measure website traffic and engagement. Before consent, Google Analytics scripts, requests, and cookies are not loaded.

When analytics is enabled, the processed categories may include page URL and page title, referral source, device and browser information, coarse geography inferred from IP address, and interaction or engagement identifiers such as pages viewed and session events.

Purpose: to understand website usage and improve public website content and performance.

Consent controls: website analytics is opt-in. If your browser signals Global Privacy Control, website analytics consent is honored as denied, including when a prior grant exists. You can change or withdraw consent at any time from the website footer "Analytics settings" control.

Retention: Google Analytics is configured for 2-month event-level and user-level data retention. Aggregate reports may persist longer.

International processing and transfer: Google may process website analytics data in the United States and other jurisdictions, subject to Google's contractual and organizational safeguards (including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable).

Website analytics never includes MileMouse desktop app totals, key content, raw mouse movement paths, or desktop app history data.

Our hosting provider may independently process ordinary service and request data, such as IP address, user agent, requested path, timestamp, and security or diagnostic logs, to deliver and protect the website.

8. Retention and deletion

Local activity totals remain on-device until you reset them or delete local files. Reset all data clears recorded activity totals only; configuration remains.

• For manual full local deletion, close MileMouse, then delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\Milemouse.
• User exports and backups remain where the user placed them and are user-managed.
• Restore replaces activity totals after confirmation.
• If present, trial.json retains only local trial start and last-seen timestamps and may restart the local trial window if app data is removed.
• Standalone EXE builds also store app data under standard %LOCALAPPDATA% paths.
• Store package uninstall removed redirected package data in one local test, but uninstall behavior is not guaranteed.
• Website analytics data (if consented) is retained by Google Analytics for 2 months at event and user level; aggregate reports may remain longer.
• Microsoft handles Store account and purchase records under Microsoft policies.

9. Security

Keeping activity totals local reduces transfer exposure. MileMouse uses atomic file writes to lower the risk of partial file corruption.

MileMouse local files are not represented as encrypted by default. Access to local data depends on your device security and Windows account controls.

No system is risk-free.

10. Children

MileMouse is a general utility app and is not directed to children. Where applicable, guardians are responsible for supervising device and app use.

11. Rights and choices

You can control app activity locally by using available controls:

• Pause tracking or quit the app.
• Reveal the local data folder.
• Reset activity totals.
• Create exports or backups if your entitlement includes those features.
• Delete local files directly on your device.
• Change or withdraw website analytics consent using "Analytics settings" in the website footer.

Microsoft Store billing, refund, account, and delivery requests must be directed to Microsoft Support.

12. Changes

We may update this policy. The Last updated date will change. Changes are effective when posted or on a later stated date, subject to applicable law.
